Your heart is in the right place, but you are not. You can’t bring a new pet into your home but would love to help these little ones with their care and attention until they find suitable homes. Knowing what you can do to help may be as simple at sponsoring a pet.

Sponsoring a pet is a way in which you can help support a pet in a shelter while she recovers from her circumstances and waits for the right family to adopt her. There are programs opening for this in more and more areas.

The Toronto Humane Society for instance has this process set up where you can call in with a pledge to sponsor a pet in need. They will take your general information and financial pledge plan, then with your consent will send you the information of a pet in need of your love. The Toronto Humane Society sends a photograph of the animal so you can see your little friend daily and remember why it is you are doing this.

So you can’t have the cat in your home, but his picture could be displayed proudly on your fridge. You will receive information on his condition, how your money will help, and any other information of interest regarding your sponsored pet. When your pet is finally adopted, you will be given a notification of this and allowed to carry on with another pet.

This program may vary from shelter or institution to another in how much you can pledge, but being a part of saving a life is a wonderful privilege. Your furry friend will be well taken care of and given the best chance he could have ever asked for.

With this comes not only the benefit of knowing you are helping a little dog, cat, or other, but you can also reap the rewards of a tax benefit with the receipts you receive from doing so. Of course we know that saving the pet is the best reward of all.

So, if you are thinking of a way to help a sheltered pet find a reason to live, then consider pet-sponsorship, it is after all for a good ‘paws’.
