Saying Goodby To My Katie Bear

Katie And Sammy Were 24/7 Companions and Friends
I knew that the inevitable day was approaching though, Katie, now 14 years old, was very sick and I was having to carry her up and down the stairs, not the easiest of tasks but one I daresay many dog owners have carried out.
Only a fellow dog/pet owner can appreciate the sheer heartache that final decision brings. It is the last chapter you must complete for your faithful friend and boy it hurts like hell. You convince yourself that they are doing fine, a bit wobbly, a bit older but they are happy and they are coping. When you really know the truth but kind of push it to the back of your mind.
The final push that I required came in the guise of a little girl called Hope, my neighbours child. She loved Katie and would often visit to give her a hug, Katie was her friend. Hope only uttered a sentence but it was those few innocent words that forced me to see wisdom. She said, ‘Your Katie, my friend, looks so sad today, doesn’t she?’ Well that did it if a little girl could spot that Katie was unhappy then she must be just that, unhappy, not her usual self. So that was the hardest decision made, generic the decision to say goodbye to a dear and loyal friend, a best friend, my darling ‘Katie Bear’.
Katie set the path for our other dogs to follow, she was the leader, they walk in her pawsteps. She left behind so many memories, she was compassion and kindness in one package. My ‘Golden-Bear.’ I call the memories little ‘golden nuggets,’ traces of a beautiful girl.
